Cretan Folkloric Company

 

CHANIOTISSA:
Voula Platyrrahos in the next photo dressed in the authentic costume of Crete's western province, Chania. Chania today is the second biggest city of the island of Crete.


 

SFAKIANI:
Sfakia, another province of Western Crete, has left it's own mark in the golden pages of Crete's history. Joanna Papalexopoulos in the next photo in the genuine female costume of the province of Sfakia.


RETHEMNIOTISSA:
Rethymnon, is today one of the four big cities of Crete. Located in central Crete, the province of Rethymnon, has for the past century, produced the biggest names in Cretan folkmusic. Tina Parliaros is dressed in the female traditional costume of this central province of Crete, Rethymnon.


 

ANOGIANNI:
Anogia, another rich in cultural heritage province located on the slopes of Psiloriti - Crete's highest mountain - maintains even to this day the customs and ethics inherited by past generations, and it will continue to preserve and flourish these traditional elements of Cretan heritage for decades to come. In this photo, we can see Angie Vourvahakis dressed in the authentic female costume of the Anogianni.


MESSARITISSA:
In this photo we can see Maria Bargiatakis in the traditional female costume of the region of Messara.


AGIONIKOLIOTISSA:
In this photo we can see Olympia Tsalikis in the traditional female costume of the region of Agios Nikolaos, Lasithiou.


LELA KLIDI: The Creator of the Cretan Traditional Costumes of our Musical-Dancing School.
Lela Klidi, the designer and creator of these costumes, states the following : "...in these efforts of mine, I am attempting to reproduce these elements of our historic art & dress. Through my personal studies and information gathered through the instructions of respected elders of our island, I have attempted the reproduction of the Cretan Female costumes according to era's and origins..." This designer has revived twelve female Cretan costumes, representing different places, epoch's of history, and figures of Cretan history. Five of those costumes, are in the possession of our Musical-Dancing School, and with the help of our elite compatriots, the other seven will in future become a part of our Musical-Dancing School also.
